I've always been an adventurous girl so naturally I'd want an adventurous partner, right? Well I certainly lucked out in finding Mark! Being a rock climber and highliner myself, I wasn't quite sure that dating a BASE Jumper would work out. But, it turns out that having separate but similar passions really compliments each other. I thought I'd take a minute to introduce my boyfriend, Mark, who was born to fly.
I've always been an adventurous girl so naturally I'd want an adventurous partner, right? Well I certainly lucked out in finding Mark! In 2013 I was living in Moab, Utah (still am) and came across a tall and handsome BASE Jumper while I was working at a bar. Little did I know that we'd end up being the perfect pair. Being into both rock climbing and highlining myself, I wasn't sure that dating a BASE jumper would exactly work out. But, it turns out that having separate but similar passions really compliments each other. Mark loves to fly and I love to be up high! In my first post I talked a little bit about myself and what I like to do, so I thought I'd introduce Mark and what he's passionate about. Ever since he was a little boy, he's been interested in human flight. Both of his parents being airline pilots, it makes sense. When he was young, his Dad used to take him to the drop-zone near Phoenix, Arizona to watch the skydivers as "cheap entertainment". Mark immediately knew that one day he too would fly. When he finally turned 18, he started sneaking behind his parent's backs and began logging skydives at the local drop-zone. Needless to say when his parent's found out they weren't exactly thrilled. About a year later, he started BASE Jumping, which is jumping off of either cliff's or buildings for a few seconds of free fall before the parachute opens. It's been about 6 years now since Mark first started flying but when you talk to him it seems as if he's been doing it for lifetimes. As his girlfriend of course I see the best in him, but I can truly say that I've never met anybody quite as passionate about something as Mark is. He was BORN to fly. Anything involving flight and Mark is interested. I often come home to him watching youtube videos of wingsuit fliers in Europe, or checking out the latest wingsuit on the market. He's completely and utterly obsessed. He's interested in all human flight but what he is most excited about it wingsuiting, otherwise known as "squirrel suiting". This is a form of flying unlike any other. The large suit allows for longer flights and horizontal flight paths. Innovators are constantly coming up with new designs to allow for longer and smoother flights. Living in Moab, the cliffs aren't quite high enough to allow for much wingsuit BASE Jumping so he spends a lot of time flying out of airplanes in his suit. His dream is to do more wingsuit BASE jumping which means we are most likely going to re-locate within the next few years. I'd love for him to realize that dream! This year, Mark became a Tandem Skydive Instructor at Skydive Canyonlands. This mean he's the guy that straps himself to you when you want to fly out of an airplane. He is finally at a point in his life where he is doing what he loves as his job. I am so proud of him and can't wait to see where this takes him! Helping Mark prepare for a jump!
