The population of Verbier around this time of year goes from 4,000 to 40,000 people.

The slopes are getting icy due to some mid week rain and the many people who are here on vacation for Christmas or the New Year. I got told a statistic that could well be true. The population of Verbier around this time of year goes from 4,000 to 40,000 people. The reason this seems plausible is because of the masses of people we have encountered at every single chair lift. It’s getting pretty frustrating but there is the odd moment of entertainment.

Today there were problems with the James Blunt chair lift and it kept stopping and starting. After a 30 minute wait we both got through the gate. A snowboarder tried to squeeze into the spare seat and knocked everyone over except the pair of us. A huge pile of limbs and ski equipment was accompanied by an outburst of French anger. We couldn’t help but laugh which made for an interestingly awkward lift ride.

Happy New Year!
